Callabriga Douro is a new wine from the old world, an exciting new brand of genuine quality from Portugal. "Our passion for great wines led us to search for the unique flavours of the Portuguese Wine Regions" - Salvador Guedes, President of Sogrape Vinhos.
Tasting Notes
Callabriga Douro is a deep red coloured wine with purple shades. Complex aromas of ripe red fruits (dark cherry and raspberry), a hint of cedar and eucalyptus, and spices like nutmeg and pepper, resulting from the quality of the oak barrels used in maturing. Full-bodied, the wine balances solid tannins with an excellent fruit and good acidity.
Varieties
Callabriga Douro was produced with Tinta Roriz and other grape varieties of the region (Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional).
Winemaking
Callabriga Douro was made in the Douro region, from grapes with the ideal oenological maturation balance. After gentle crushing and complete de-stemming, the grapes were fermented under controlled temperatures, with intense yet gentle pumping-over, followed by skin maceration that allowed full colour, aromatic and phenolic components extraction.
Ageing
Once the malolactic fermentation was complete, the wines were kept separately for about one year in 225 litre oak barrels, and their development carefully monitored and tasted to guarantee the preservation of fruity aromas and the future creation of a final harmonious blend. The final blend was bottled without cold-stabilisation and kept in bottle for around 6 months before being released. Callabriga Douro has a good evolution potential and will age well in bottle for 3-5 years.
