Established in 1948, Amrut Distillery in Bangalore creates stunning single malts. Using predominantly Indian barley, the hot, humid climate allows Amrut to use a short maturation window and create spirits that are both classic and vibrant. The distillery takes its name from the elixir of life in Indian mythology – ‘Amrut’.
Produced from malted barley grown in the Punjab, this non-age-statement single malt whisky is matured in ex-bourbon barrels and has distinctive aromas of spice and ripe fruit.
Tasting Note
Nose - Sweet, with candy necklaces and Love Hearts joined by honeysuckle and a gentle touch of sour lemon. Notes of apple develop – both sweet and floury apples as well as intensely flavoured boiled sweets.
Palate - An initial creaminess is swept into the background by sweet and sour fruit – apples, crunchy pears, unripe pineapple, mango and hints of banana. Sharp clove spice sits behind that, with tannic fruit skin dryness at the very back.
Finish - Very long. Sweet and grainy, with damp leaves and liquorice.
