Opal Nera the original black sambuca is a dark edgy blend of anise elderberries and lemon with a distinctive flavour of liquorice and aniseed backed by citrus freshness.
Alessandro Francoli, heir of the Francoli distilling dynasty created Opal Nera on his honeymoon in 1989. He was looking for a modern twist on sambuca, a traditional Italian aperitif based on the berries and flowers of the elder bush.
Traditional sambucas were clear.Alessandros inspiration was to use the natural colourings found in the dark skins of elderberries to create Opal Neras seductive violet black hue.
Opal Nera black sambuca is made in Italy from entirely natural ingredients. Italian green anise, lemon and elderberries are blended with Chinese star anise and water drawn from a local Alpine well. The result is a balanced, premium sambuca with a distinctively smooth finish.
The success of Opal Nera led naturally to the launch of its younger sibling, Opal Bianca, a modern interpretation of traditional Italian white sambucas.
Blended from lemon skins, elder blossoms, star anise and pure water, this original black sambuca tastes of liquorice and anise. The sweet but strong flavour is reminiscent of black jellybeans with lemon zest.
