The wines used to blend Taylor's LBV were drawn from a reserve of some of the best full-bodied red ports, produced at the harvest, from grapes grown on Taylor's own vineyards and on other top properties in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior areas. Vinification is made in stainless steel tanks, with skin contact (maceration), under controlled temperature. Ageing takes place in wooden vats of 20.000 lit. up to 50.000 litres of capacity, for a period of 5 years.
The almost perfect growing season caused great excitement in the Douro right until picking began. Harvest took place from 10 September and 30 October 1998, at average temperatures (for the region) and in the presence of a limited amount of rain.
Taylor's Late Bottled Vintage is the port that Taylor's drink themselves and serve to their guests. Experienced port drinkers may well notice some similarities with Taylor's Vintage Ports, since it shares so many of their characteristics.
